Dr. Kathie Allen Holds Town Hall in Carbon County

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 29, 2017—Price, Utah—On Wednesday night, Dr. Kathie Allen addressed an energized group of 25 constituents at the Carbon County Administration Building.

Campaign Communications Director Daniel Friend unveiled a campaign-produced infographic explaining why free market solutions don’t work to solve America’s health care problem. Dr. Kathie Allen then shared her story of discovering and dealing with her father’s opioid addiction problem, noting that Utah’s opioid addiction crisis has hit Carbon County particularly hard.

After giving her prepared remarks, Dr. Allen took questions from audience members for an hour and a half. When asked about her support for medical cannabis, Dr. Allen took the opportunity to clarify that she did not support prescribing cannabis to adolescents because the adolescent brain responds differently to cannabis than an adult brain does.

One member of the audience shared her experience of making too much to qualify for Medicaid but not enough to be able to afford an ACA plan. Dr. Allen explained how universal health care coverage, properly implemented, would close that coverage gap.

Questions touched not just on health care but also on energy policy, an important issue in Carbon County. Dr. Allen reiterated her belief that cutting-edge technologies will give American businesses non-fuel uses for coal, much as oil is currently used to manufacture plastics.

After questions concluded, attendees enjoyed refreshments provided by the Carbon County Democratic Party.
