I embrace diversity and inclusion. Too many American citizens, including Muslims, African Americans, Native Americans, Latinos, and others, have been marginalized for too long. This has only worsened under the Trump administration. Many Utahns in the 3rd District are descendants of pioneers who were forced across the plains by religious persecution. Now is our chance to treat others the way we wish those ancestors had been treated. I am heartened by the many refugee relief efforts we have seen in our state. I am the granddaughter of refugees, and movements like Mormon Women for Ethical Government make me proud to be a Utahn.
I favor the Utah Compact and the efforts of the LDS Church to keep families from being torn apart by overly aggressive immigration enforcement policies. People who have resided in America for years, raising their children, should be afforded legal protection, as was suggested in the Dreamer Act.
